    William Skelton

    Assistant Financial Accountant

William Skelton is our Assistant Financial Accountant and began his journey with Esland through an accountancy apprenticeship scheme. During his time with us, William has completed both his Level 3 and Level 4 accountancy qualifications and is currently studying towards his ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification, which is due to be completed in 2026. In his role, William prepares financial statements and supports the Management Accounts team, while also managing monthly and weekly reporting.

Hi, my name is William Skelton and I’m an Assistant Financial Accountant. I’ve worked for Esland for four years.

    My journey so far

My journey with Esland began through an accountancy apprenticeship scheme. Thanks to my training provider putting me forward, I was lucky enough to be selected by Esland, and I’ve been part of the family ever since.

During my time here, I’ve worked hard to grow and develop, completing my Level 3 and Level 4 accountancy qualifications. I’m currently studying towards my ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification, which I’m due to complete in 2026.

In my role, I prepare Esland’s financial statements and also support the Management Accounts team. Over the years, I’ve picked up knowledge across a wide range of topics and systems, and I’ve become someone my team can turn to for help.

I love what I do but what makes it even better is the people I work with every day. The Finance team is a friendly and supportive group, and I feel proud that together we play a part in supporting the care sector, which is such an important and meaningful industry.

    Celebrating milestones

My role runs in a clear monthly rhythm. The first four working days are focused on closing the financial accounts, followed by three days on the management and education accounts. Once those are completed, I pull together a series of extra reports. The rest of the month is spent preparing for the next cycle, alongside my weekly reports, such as tracking cash flow and maintenance spend.

One of my happiest memories here is how the team celebrated my 21st birthday. I wasn’t expecting anything, but they went out of their way to make it special. It made me feel truly valued and showed me how much I belonged, even though I was still young and learning my role.

    Kindness costs nothing

When I first joined Esland, I was pretty shy and found it difficult to talk to people I didn’t know. Over time, I’ve grown in confidence and now feel comfortable facing new challenges and situations. I’ve really grown into my role, both professionally and personally. With the qualifications I’ve achieved and am working towards, I’m happy to be developing my career here.

At Esland, we talk a lot about our values, and the one that speaks to me most is Kindness. To me, Kindness means treating everyone with fairness and respect. It costs nothing, yet it can make a massive difference to someone’s day, no matter who they are.
