    Miriam Berramou

    HR Director

Miriam Berramou is our HR Director at Esland, where she leads the People & Culture business partners and administrator in supporting colleagues across the organisation’s homes, schools, and therapeutic support services. Since joining in 2022, Miriam has focused on shaping policies, enhancing employee experience, and building strong, collaborative relationships across the business. Miriam champions recognition of staff at every level and ensures people remain at the heart of Esland’s journey, creating a culture rooted in respect and kindness.

Hi, my name is Miriam Berramou and I’m the HR Director. I’ve worked for Esland since May 2022.

    My journey so far

I first joined Esland in May 2022 as a People and Culture Business Partner, thanks to a LinkedIn connection who shared a vacancy with me. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding steps in my career. Less than a year later, in March 2023, I became Head of People Services and i've now progressed to HR Director.

The promotion brought with it new responsibilities, including leading our fantastic People & Culture business partners and administrator. Watching the team grow and thrive as we support colleagues across the business has been a real highlight. No two days look the same. One moment I might be reviewing employee feedback, the next I’m drafting new policies or catching up with my team.

    Why people come first

It might sound predictable, coming from the HR Director, but for me it really is all about people. I love working alongside my colleagues and seeing how much recognition there is from the Senior Management Team for the vital roles our staff play in homes, schools, and therapeutic support services. That recognition isn’t something you always find in growing organisations, and it makes me proud to be part of Esland’s journey.

I’m also grateful for the warm welcome I receive whenever I visit one of our homes or schools. It’s a reminder that our culture is rooted in kindness and collaboration. Every day, I’ll hear a “good news story” that reinforces just how incredible our work is. Whether it’s a small comment or a bigger milestone, those stories always bring me back to what matters most: keeping children at the heart of everything we do and valuing the individuals who make that possible.

    Growing into leadership

Before joining Esland, I spent seven years navigating the world of CQC frameworks and inspections, so adjusting to the Ofsted approach was a real challenge. Thankfully, I had wonderful colleagues who helped me make that transition. The support of our Senior Management Team and my line manager have also encouraged me to step out of my shell. Once quiet and reserved in certain situations, I now feel safe to share my views and contribute openly.

If I had to pick an Esland value I resonate with the most, it would be the Kind value. I genuinely care about my team and colleagues and always try to check in if someone is having a tough day. In my view, respect and kindness go hand in hand with success, whether in HR, in leadership, or in life. That belief continues to guide me as I grow in my role, and I’m proud to be part of an organisation where people really do come first.
