Autism Acceptance Month: Finding confidence and connection at Esland Shropshire School

As part of Autism Acceptance Month, Esland is sharing Luke’s story from Esland Shropshire School; highlighting how the right support can make a lasting difference for autistic young people.
When Luke joined the school, he had become withdrawn and disengaged from education following a difficult previous placement. With tailored support around communication, routine, and emotional wellbeing, he began to slowly rebuild trust and re-engage with learning.
Today, Luke is more confident, forming positive relationships and starting to explore his interests in art and music.
His journey is a strong example of what Autism Acceptance looks like in practice — creating a space where young people feel understood, supported, and able to grow.
